After the failure of the Warsaw Uprising, 85% of Warsaw was destroyed by 1945. Thus, major parts of the city are renovated. Even the Old Town is completely new which has been entirely destroyed after World War II. However, UNESCO appreciated Warsaw’s effort in restoring the Old Town and it is listed on the World Heritage sites in the year 1980. Even the Warsaw Castle has suffered severe damage after the uprising. These days, the castle is the home of the ‘Royal Castle Museum’ and there are permanent exhibitions taking place here. This beautiful castle is located at Castle Square, the southern part of Old Town. In the heart of the Warsaw Old Town is a mermaid statue named Syrenka Warszawska. This has become a symbol of the city and is represented on the arms coat.
Pierogi is an authentic dish in Poland and trying this is highly recommended. There are milk bars located throughout the city. Having a meal in one of this authentic food joint is an all-new experience for every visitor travelling to Warsaw. As the name suggests milk bars do not serve milk.
